Sulphuric Acid

All sulphuric acid (H2SO4) industry stakeholders strive to achieve safe handling, regulatory compliance, and efficient transportation of sulphuric acid by road, rail, and water.

The Sulphur Institute (TSI) recently expanded its programs and activities to include the Sulphuric Acid Working Group (SA), to service another important sector of the sulphur industry. Participation in TSI's SA working group assists member companies in achieving safe and efficient international transportation.

Initial SA activities include monitoring for proposed regulatory changes; informing members of changes that could affect (H2SO4); convening forums to determine appropriate action; and providing input as one voice on selected issues. Our mission is to expand knowledge of environmental and safety issues associated with (H2SO4) operations; improve practices through information sharing; and advocate responsible resolution of (H2SO4) transportation, handling, and logistics regulatory issues.

By sharing leading practice information during TSI forums, member companies show their commitment to safe and efficient (H2SO4) transportation and handling. By acting on behalf of member companies with government representatives to convey concerns about proposed changes, TSI uses unified information and advocates sensible solutions that address sulphur transportation issues. In addition, TSI serves as a united voice for industry that can quickly respond to most questions with facts, figures, and expert input to ensure accurate information flow. As one example, TSI represents (H2SO4) interests on the Association of American Railroads Tank Car Committee (TCC) and advocates united positions on issues.
